Why Are Bean Bags so Comfortable? And Other Questions.
Mar 24, 2022

If you’ve ever sat in a bean bag (if you haven’t, what have you been doing with your life?!), you’ll be familiar with the glorious sinking feeling that it brings. That precious moment where it feels like your spine has been removed, and the rest of your bones won’t be far behind it. It’s pure relaxation. The ultimate comfort. But just why are bean bags so comfortable? In this blog, we’ll attempt to answer that question, along with some of your other commonly asked bean bag queries.

Why Are Bean Bags so Comfortable: And Four Other Frequently Asked Questions

Why are bean bags so comfortable?

What makes bean bag furniture so much more comfortable than other chairs is that it adapts to your body, rather than the other way round.  The malleable filling contours itself around you, allowing every part of your body to be supported, without pressure. This means that you don’t need to fidget to find a comfy position. That your muscles aren’t straining. And that you’re not slouching, leaving your spine to fend for itself. Because however you sit, or lie, or sprawl, you will always be supported.

Can bean bags cause back pain?

While we can’t categorically say, ‘no’, because everything carries the potential to cause back pain if used inappropriately, the reverse is usually true. Because they mould to your body shape, bean bags always provide the support your body needs. This reduces the potential to strain your muscles, joints, and ligaments.

Are there bean bags you can sleep on?

Having evolved from literal bags of beans, bean bags now come in all shapes and sizes. From poufs to sofas. And yes, even chair beds. While we’ve yet to come across an adult double, king, or queen bean bag bed, giant bean bags and chair beds make excellent chaise, day beds, and guest beds. And because they contour to your body, you don’t even need a pillow.

Are bean bags safe for babies?

No. Although we offer a whole range of children’s bean bags, we do not recommend any of them for use by children of less than 12 months of age. And many of our large bean bags are unsuitable for children younger than three years old. This is because the malleability of the beans can pose a hazard for babies and very young children.

Why are bean bags expensive?

The price of bean bags varies according to the materials used to construct them, and the quality of the craftsmanship. While it is possible to find low-cost bean bags, or to bag a bargain in the sale section, with bean bags – as with anything else – the more you spend, the better quality the product. If you want a comfortable bean bag chair that will last, it will cost you more than an item intended to be near-disposable. While luxe materials – leather, faux fur, silk – will always be more costly than comfy old chord. In short, you get what you pay for.

Bean bag furniture has been popular since the 1970s. Largely because it is so stupendously comfortable! Providing the optimum relaxation experience, bean bags ease your body. Providing comfort at the end of a long day, or even helping you through that long day, with comfortable WFH seating solutions. So, if you’re looking for a way to bring a little bit of cosiness and contentment to a room in your home, a bean bag might just be the answer.
