How to Make Your Home More Cosy Using Bean Bags

How to Make Your Home More Cosy Using Bean Bags
Oct 07, 2024

There’s no getting away from the fact that the summer is truly over. We’ve had our first zero-degree morning, the leaves are turning, and the woollies are out. Even inside, the indoor temperature is nippy. And that can mean only one thing: it’s time for cosyfication. So, what can you do to give your home that cosy autumn vibe?

Six Ways to Embrace the Cosy Autumn Aesthetic at Home

Use bean bag furniture

It’s partly the fabric, partly the filling, and partly the way they mould around your body, but bean bags are fundamentally warming. Whether you’re nestling into a giant bean bag, or burrowing into a bean bag pillow with a hug cushion for extra snuggles, bean bags provide a unique seating experience. They support you and they move with your body, providing a seat that feels like an embrace. And because they are available in some of the very best autumnal fabrics – soft chenille, chunky knit, plush velvet, and incredible cord – they really look the part too. Helping your home to look as cosy as it feels.

Add some rugs

While rugs can look good at any time of year, they can really help to keep off the chill in autumn and winter. If you have boarded or laminate floors, you’ll instantly feel the difference on your bare morning feet. But even in carpeted rooms, rugs can help to increase insulation and reduce heat loss. And the right rug can look incredibly inviting, adding to your cosy aesthetic.

Pile on the cushions

Autumn and winter really are the seasons for cushions. They don’t just offer a softer seat and a cosier look. They provide a buffer between your back and the cold surface of chairs. Somewhere to rest your head during that delicious mid-movie nap. And something to snuggle when your cold or in need of comfort. Whether it’s scatter cushions, floor cushions, or supportive cuddle cushions. They all play a part in banishing the autumn cold and drear.

Light it up

It’s no secret that the days begin to get shorter in autumn. It’s much darker much earlier. And even during the day, the sun is lower and the cloud cover is often thicker. Meaning that we don’t get as much natural light indoors. Adding lamps can not only make your home more practical. It can make it more inviting. You can add reading lamps and task lights, or little decorative lamps to accent certain features. Or you might want to try changing your regular light bulbs for a warmer shade. Either way, the aim is to move away from those glaring, overhead lights, and create a softer visual aesthetic.

Bring out the blankets

If a folded blanket or throw doesn’t play a part in your autumn and winter interiors, you really need to do something about your energy bill! Cosying down with a book or a film under a sherpa throw is one of winter’s greatest pleasures. Soft to the touch and oh-so warm, this is peak cosiness. And if you get too hot, you can just poke your foot out for a little temperature regulation.

Change your colour pallet

Autumn has a very strongly identifiable colour pallet. Made up of reds, and yellows, and oranges, and browns, it’s naturally warming. By refreshing some of your paintwork, or bringing warmer tones to your furnishings – try layering gold, brown, and green cushions, or investing in a warm brown leather bean bag – you can change the way your home looks and feels. Autumn is one of our favourite times of year for décor. It’s cosy and inviting. And if done well, it can make coming home something to really look forward to.
